summer has not yet
opened the gate
a transition of
sustenance to self
pines and reeds
hold tight to their colors
as winter whitens the landscape
Beneath March’s icy hold
Spring begins her rise to the surface.
Let us take our willow seats
and savor a few more garden moments with the geraniums
before the the frost comes and sends us all inside.
Like a receding tide
the ocean of wildflower color
begins its subtle retreat in August.
In a few weeks time this road will lead
to lazy days shimmering with heat and nights with fireflies.
Leafing branch reaches into spring
towards summer and shade.
Colors begin to leak into the landscape.
Between the cold front
and the warmth of the tail end of summer
is the blue sky of memory making.
Color moves across the mountains
in a dazzling display of transitions
before the stark beauty of winter descends.
A single leaf speaks
of the movement
of Summer to Fall.
